President's Message

Welcome to the USUA Flying Club 1 web site! We are glad that you have chosen to visit us. We are one of the largest USUA clubs in the country. We are the center for powered ultralight flying in Northern Virginia.

We love aviation and fly for fun. We welcome veteran aviators, novice flyers, and anyone who just thinks they might have an interest. Come out and visit us. Our aim is to promote and preserve ultralight aviation of all types, and most importantly to do it in a safe and responsible manner. At USUA Club 1 we fly almost every kind of powered aircraft, especially those shown here. Click on each picture to see a big version.

If you're looking for a place to fly ultralights, or just want to see what all the excitement is about, come out and visit one of our meetings or events. If you prefer, contact me directly and I'll put you in touch with an expert in the type of aircraft that interests you.

We are lucky to have the Warrenton Airpark as our center of operations. Thanks to the generosity of the airfield owner, we hold most of our events there, and many of our members keep their aircraft there. The field is a superb facility for our kind of flying - this at a time when the number of private fields shrinks every year. We are always mindful that we are there as guests. Obeying the rules established by the owner is mandatory and enforced without exception. (See Warrenton Airpark Rules). The same is true at the other private fields that we are privileged to use. Please remember we are guests at these facilities and must act accordingly. Otherwise, the light aviation community will lose the use of these excellent and scarce resources.

For new members, we have the Flying Club 1 Mentoring Program. Although voluntary on both sides, I encourage you to participate. I myself benefitted greatly when I was new. For the club, this is a chance to get newcomers off on the right foot with their eyes wide open and with clear expectations of what they have to do to fly safely.

See Event Schedule & Meetings for a list of our activities. In the winter (January - March), we meet on the first Thursday of each month at Centreville High School at 7:30 pm. Likewise in November. But from April to October, join us in the cedar grove at the Warrenton Airpark. Those meetings are usually at 11:00am on the first Saturday of the month, followed by a free cookout, but check the schedule as we sometimes combine our meeting with some flying events. Guests are very welcome at any of our meetings, as well as at all our flying events.

We look forward to flying with you.

Fly safe,

Steve Beste,
