President's MessageWelcome to the USUA "Flying Club 1, Inc." web site! We are glad that you have chosen to visit us. This club is a non-stock, non-profit recreational club dedicated to the sport of safe, recreational ultralight and light-sport aircraft aviation. The club and most of its members are located in Northern Virginia, but ultralight flyers from anywhere are welcome. We love aviation and fly for fun. We welcome veteran aviators, novice flyers, and anyone who just thinks they might have an interest to come out and join us. Our aim is to promote and preserve ultralight aviation of all types, and most importantly to do it in a safe and responsible manner. At USUA Club 1 we fly fixed wing ultralights, powered parachutes, powered paragliders, and small general aviation aircraft. If you're looking for a place to fly ultralights, or just want to see what all the excitement is about, come out and join us! If you prefer, contact me directly and I'll put you in touch with an expert in the type of aircraft you are interested in. A majority of our club members hangar at and fly from various public and private airfields in Northern Virginia: Warrenton-Fauquier Airport, Culpeper Airport, Manassas Regional Airport, Lenn Bros Field and Warrenton Air Park (Beatley Memorial Field). Some of these airfields are privately owned such as Beatley Field and Lenn Bros Field. Obeying the rules established by the owners is mandatory and enforced without exception. (See--Warrenton Airpark Rules). Please remember we are guests at these facilities and must act accordingly. Otherwise, the Ultralight and Light-Sport Aircraft community will lose the use of these excellent and scarce resources. The Board of Directors has approved the Flying Club 1 Mentoring Program for new members. The Membership Director heads this program with the support of the BOD and Flying Club 1 members. Participation, although voluntary, is strongly encouraged by existing club members, as it is the hope that new members will benefit from working with seasoned aviators in a safe and educational manner. Information about our latest activities may be obtained from the Event Schedule & Meetings link on the Club Website. We generally meet on the first Thursday of each month at Centreville High School at 7:30 pm. Sometimes we meet at the Warrenton Air Park on a Saturday morning and combine our meeting with some flying. Check our web site for this month's meeting. Guests are most welcome at both monthly meetings as well as at all our flying events. We look forward to flying with you. Fly safe, Len Alt, President (2008 - 2009) USUA Flying Club 1
